5 Beautiful Stars
Ok, this is my first ever poetry review, so please bear with me on this. I’m not usually a fan, but the author herself and the beautiful cover artwork really drew me to this book. I’ve always had a soft spot for all things gothic and vampiric (not talking sparkly vampires here, if that’s your thing, I suggest you turn around now & NEVER return.) Uh, so yeah… I really wanted to give this a try 🙂 !
Ok the cover artwork can be seen below. I’m advised this was designed and created by an Artist named Gemma Newey at Dark Phreak Arts. I must say, she sure does have a talent for it! If I ever write a book myself I know where I’d be going for my covers!
Ok so I’ll start on the poetry now, as I say, I hope this format I’m going for is pleasing enough.
So I’ve started with the first poem, ‘Hallowed Heart‘
The words and feelings are expressed beautifully, the words really speak of a deep bound respect and love. Makes your skin go all tingley. I really also love the reference of ones heartbeat resembling the beat of butterfly wings 🙂
Right, here we have ‘Lustful Hunger‘
Oh wow ok… so i assume this poem is about someone being ravaged by a lusty vamp! I like the recollection of confusion mixed with fear and desire. No sparkly crap here, i like it! If you’re gonna be vampinated, this is the right way about it! Again some really deep cutting lyrics here, i can vision this as a song.
Next up is ‘Infinite Fantasy‘
This appears to be a mural to life’s long and endless struggles of death and hate. Indeed, are we meant to keep repeating ourselves, repeating our past and our mistakes for all eternity. Written beautifully and with such honesty, the sounds of one woman’s thoughts against the world.
The next ‘Eyes of Glass‘…..
Ok, my interpretation of this poem is as follows. An old lonely soul, forgotten and lost, finally finding its mate, its other half. This soul is new and full of life, breathing and living. A new soul. The poem expresses the feelings and contact as they meet and realise they are meant to be together. Very beautiful really.
Onwards to ‘Blackened Rose’
I’m getting the feeling that the cover of this book is set to represent this particular one. I feel that the person speaking is a being trapped in a never-ending world of life and death, blood and flesh. This person yearns for something more but is shunned to a life of loneliness. Such a strong sense of sadness is portrayed in the words.
I would truly love to sit and review each poem individually, they are beautiful and heartfelt. If you could take a piece of artwork and transform it into words, it is exactly what you would find in this book. The words themselves are stained with emotion, love and pain. The author herself has bared her very soul and heart, it is beautiful.
I’m genuinely moved and i am driven with a need to find Ms Cross and wrap a massive warm hug around her shoulders.
I my favourite poem of all is entitled ‘Dark Winged Lover’ … It’s a story of true love and companionship, expressing the deepest possible connection between two people.
Thank you Faye for writing this and choosing to share it with the world. I hope it can touch other people as much as it has touched me ♥
